Volusia County records fourth shark bite of 2017

A beachgoer wading out in shallow water was bitten on the foot by an unidentified shark on Monday, making it the fourth confirmed unprovoked bite in Volusia County this year.

According to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue, the victim did not require treatment and was released on the scene.

Two incidents at New Smyrna Beach, and a third in Ormond Beach, have Volusia County on pace to break last year’s mark of 15 confirmed attacks.
