Greetings Sharkophiles,

As this site continues to evolve, we’re constantly trying to figure out the best ways to stay on top of all the shark news. As part of our effort to simplify this process, we will be condensing some of the most fascinating news, fantastic videos and amazing photos into a weekly rundown of the best shark-related news on the web.

So here are the best shark-related news stories from around the world for the week of Oct. 14-21:

Naked Man Jumps Into Aquarium’s Shark Tank

Attendees at this week’s Friday Night Jazz event at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum in Toronto got a rare sighting when an apparently intoxicated man stripped naked and jumped into the museum’s shark tank.

Video taken from the underwater viewing area show the nude man splashing alongside the captive sharks. The man was able to escape before police arrived.

According to the Toronto Sun, police identified the man as 37-year-old David Weaver of Nelson, British Columbia. He’s also wanted in connection with an assault causing bodily harm investigation around 8 p.m. that same evening outside Medieval Times on the Exhibition grounds.

Nude Surfer Headbuts Great White

It seems that naked encounters with sharks was a theme this week after a surfer at a nude beach in North New Zealand had to fight off a great white shark after he was bitten on the arm.

“It’s got him in the hand, the elbow, a little bit on his mouth. He was definitely in pain and there was a bit of blood,” Dargaville Volunteer Fire Brigade deputy chief Michael Ross told the New Zealand Herald.

After the incident at Baylys Beach in Dargaville, the surfer was flown to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The species of shark was identified after it left a tooth in the victim’s surfboard.

Woman Falls Into Shark Tank

A female employee at a Chinese mall went tumbling into a display tank full of lemon sharks. The whole incident was caught on surveillance video.

The shark tank was going through routine maintenance when the woman fell through an open panel. Security guards were able to pull the woman from the water unharmed.

Bull Shark Jumps Into Family’s Fishing Boat

Last week, a father and his three children were fishing in North Queensland when a six-foot bull shark lept out of the Proserpine River and ended up in their boat.

Witnesses speculated that the shark was trying to avoid a large crocodile.

“In my 65 years I’ve never seen anything like it. They were all petrified. Even the father, he had no idea what to do,” local boater Ken Madsen told the Sunshine Coast Daily. “The kids reckon they’re never going fishing again.”
