British couple Frankie and Dean Gonsalves were on a snorkeling excursion while aboard a cruise ship that was in port near Ascension Island in the South Atlantic over the weekend when an unidentified shark attacked Frankie approximately 30 yards off shore.
The shark repeatedly bit Frankie, a British social worker on the calf and foot until her husband was able to punch the shark in the head until it let go.
Frankie was able to make it to shore where she was transported to the nearby hospital.
“Who would have known how hard a shark’s head is?” Dean is reported as saying afterward.
