Record shark caught off Georgia coast

A 440-pound shortfin mako shark that was caught off the coast of Bryan County has been certified as a state record.

The 8-foot-1 inch fish was nearly twice as big as the former state record of 228.5 pounds caught in 1975.

The IGFA world record for shark is 1,221 pounds which was caught by Luke Sweeney off the coast of Chatham, Massachusetts in 2001.
